No news is good news

News rarely puts me in a good mood. Come to think of it, I couldn’t tell you the last time I read a headline or an article and felt inspired, happy or empowered.

And yet it was something I would consume every day.

I came to understand that news consumption had become my most unproductive habit.

The allure of news is that it makes you feel more informed, but if this was the case, why wouldn’t there be a spectrum of articles from negative to positive?

Because positive articles don’t sell as well as negative articles.

So for the past few months I’ve removed news from my life. Having disconnected that habit, now when I revisit the news I do so with fresh eyes and consider if I would want to adopt the habit again.

And each time, it reinforces my decision to disconnect.
