Each day we tend to prioritise tasks that need doing. Our downtime is then the space between tasks. Some of the space is a short break, and some of the space can go for hours. And when it’s all added up we have a lot of downtime each day.
But how often are we proactive in prioritising downtime? I find my default is being passive. Rather than consider what I really want to be doing or how I want to recharge, I will fall back onto familiar behaviours that don’t really serve me. Things like popping into a cafe when I’m not hungry, or scrolling through netflix to see if there’s a new show, or clicking on links I know are clickbait but am still curious about that one thing a famous person couldn’t live without…
What if we approached our downtime with the same energy as when we plan an important work project, or family gathering, or dream holiday?
What if we were deliberate in how we filled the space in between tasks?
Now, what will you do differently tonight when you arrive home from work?
