This is one of my favourite concepts. To take action, you need energy. Sometimes it takes a lot of energy to get going, and sometimes the energy comes easy.
The former is called “push energy”. That’s where you need to do a lot of mental heavy-lifting to take action. It’s that feeling when you wake up early from your alarm and need to push yourself to go to the gym.
The other is called “pull energy”. That’s where you are drawn to taking action. Going to the gym early is a lot easier when you are looking forward to a workout with friends, or if you’ve promised someone a lift.
There will always be times when you need to draw on push energy to get something done. But if you’re wanting to make sustainable change, try to create as much pull energy as you can.
