Quantity leads to quality

If you haven’t read Atomic Habits by James Clear, I highly recommend doing so. It has countless gems about creating and maintaining habits.

One of the gems is highlighting how our best work comes from repetition. The book tells a story about a photography class that was divided into halves at the start of the year. One half’s grade would be based on the number of photos submitted, while the other half could only submit one photo for the year and the grade would be based on the quality of that one photo.

The best photos in the class ended up being produced by the ‘quantity’ group, as testing and measuring multiple times lead to highly refined pieces. Meanwhile the quality group struggled to attain perfection.

If you’re looking to make a change, commit to it. Don’t hold off from starting because you want everything to be “just right”. Some days you’ll hit the mark, and some days you’ll miss, but with sustained application you’ll produce amazing results.
