Reactions signal change

When we react to a situation or an opinion, it’s usually because change is being asked of us or required of us.

And the intensity of our reaction grows with the level of change.

This is helpful to appreciate if someone’s reaction surprises us (or if we surprise ourselves).

The reason we react is because our default is to maintain the status quo. Sometimes it’s worth the fight. But many times it’s not.

So the next time you react strongly, use it as a signal to reflect.

What is the change you’re reacting to?

Could the change be a good thing?

And is the intensity of the reaction warranted?
