Schedule send or Schedule receive?

A whole new world opened up when email providers gave us the option to choose the time our emails are sent.

Before, if we were typing an email at midnight, we either had to send the email in real-time (which would be made very clear to the recipient), or we had to leave the email in draft form and send it later (which meant we could forget about sending it altogether).

But just because the function is called “Schedule send”, doesn’t mean we should be using it in that way. The beauty of the “Schedule send” button is it allows us to choose the most effective time for the recipient to RECEIVE the email.

Think about it. Every email we send has a call-to-action for the recipient, from gaining awareness to taking action. Because of this, we should be scheduling our emails to best suit the action we would like the recipient to take.

If you are choosing the default “Tomorrow morning at 8am”, how many emails do you think will be arriving in the inbox alongside yours? But if you have a specific task you would like the recipient to take, have a think about when the email should be arriving in their inbox.
