A common reason that people give for staying in their job or in their business is they don’t want to be seen as a sell out.
They feel that moving on from the connections they’ve developed means compromising their principles in some way.
They may say any replacement won’t know the industry as well, or have the same passion to drive certain outcomes, or won’t champion particular causes.
But underlying these reasons is a concern that they’ll be seen by those they’ve worked alongside as someone who’s simply moving on and benefiting unduly.
If you can relate to this, it’s worthwhile reflecting on your assumptions.
From my experience, those close to you truly want what’s best for you.
They want you to be rewarded for your hard work.
They want you to go after opportunities when they present.
They want you to drive higher value in new and exciting ways.
And while it may be hard to move on, they won’t feel like you’re letting them down.
Plus who’s to say someone else won’t do a great job when taking on your baton?
So if you get an offer that’s simply too good to refuse, really question why you’re hesitating.
