Should internal promotions be PRIORITISED over external hires?

Yesterday’s Opinion Dominion asked:

Should internal promotions be PRIORITISED over external hires?

30% said No

I went with the majority on this one.

Promoting from within sends a signal to employees that there’s a path forward.

It helps to build loyalty and create momentum.

And it also sends a message that you’re not stuck in your role.

External hires definitely bring value, and a bit of competition is healthy.

But I personally think prioritising internal promotions is the norm with most companies.

Is this a fair claim?
