When you want to make a change in your life, you need to develop good systems and habits to help you achieve it. And for a habit or system to be successful, it mustn’t have a single point of failure.
A single point of failure is when one thing goes wrong, everything stops. Any part of your system can break at any time (and it will), so you need to ensure that no single failure can end all your good work.
A simple example is using an alarm to get to the gym in the morning. If your alarm doesn’t go off, will you go to the gym? If not, that’s a single point of failure. So rather than having one alarm, maybe have two? Or maybe you can have a group chat of gym buddies who’ll call each other if someone’s snoozing? Or maybe you should schedule another time to go during the day?
Keep in mind that you’re not designing one perfect system, because every system breaks. Just focus on how you can keep taking action when things go wrong.
