Start with gratitude

Every QLA conversation begins with sharing something we’re each grateful for, as it’s helpful in a number of ways.

  1. It elevates the conversation. You don’t know how each person is feeling at the start of a conversation, so sharing gratitude really helps to shift the mood in a positive way.
  2. It puts things into context. Coaching helps people to make changes in their life, but there should always be an appreciation for what’s special in your life in this moment.
  3. It promotes connection. It’s amazing what people will share when invited to do so, and the result is you are seen just a little bit more by someone else.
  4. It becomes a habit. When you are asked at the start of every conversation to share gratitude, you grow to look forward to it.
  5. It’s just nice to do. Thinking about special things in your life is something that’s super easy but goes a long way.

Starting with gratitude works really well for conversations that are ongoing or conversations that are difficult, so consider which engagements in your life would benefit from this practice.

What are you grateful for today?
