Every QLA conversation begins with sharing something we’re each grateful for, as it’s helpful in a number of ways.
- It elevates the conversation. You don’t know how each person is feeling at the start of a conversation, so sharing gratitude really helps to shift the mood in a positive way.
- It puts things into context. Coaching helps people to make changes in their life, but there should always be an appreciation for what’s special in your life in this moment.
- It promotes connection. It’s amazing what people will share when invited to do so, and the result is you are seen just a little bit more by someone else.
- It becomes a habit. When you are asked at the start of every conversation to share gratitude, you grow to look forward to it.
- It’s just nice to do. Thinking about special things in your life is something that’s super easy but goes a long way.
Starting with gratitude works really well for conversations that are ongoing or conversations that are difficult, so consider which engagements in your life would benefit from this practice.
