Thank you for telling me

Society is based on making promises and keeping them, but sometimes we make promises we aren’t going to keep.

This doesn’t mean it’s ok to keep making false promises, it’s just an awareness that it will happen. And with this awareness, you can frame the experience in a powerful way.

Whenever you’re on the receiving end of a broken promise, it will still hurt, but try saying to yourself, “Thank you for telling me”. Appreciate the moment as a source of truth because the person has shown their actual intent.

Without this appreciation, we may be inclined to raise our expectations if the person proposes the same promise again. But you now know their actions are louder than their words.
