I think an underrated advantage for your career is penning your ideas for a public medium*.
This isn’t just so people will know you more.
Or so your company benefits.
It’s simply this.
The act of writing makes you think about what’s worth saying.
You may not think this is much.
But when was the last time you truly thought about what you wanted to say and put it out to the world for scrutiny?
You may have done this at uni, but the assignments were set for you.
Or perhaps you’ve written reports for clients, but that was completing work on their terms.
When was the last time you wrote something that was truly yours for someone else?
Not everyone.
Just someone.
You might find this prospect scary.
But I guarantee once you do it, you’ll find it highly fulfilling.
I encourage you to try it.
Seek out a trade publication or ask your company if you can write an article for LinkedIn.
It may not make waves for your career.
But I promise you the intrinsic rewards are amazing.
