Video games on holidays

It was a big deal when we received a Nintendo 64 as kids, but it came with one caveat – we could only play it during holidays.

The evening before school started we had to pack the video games away and they wouldn’t return until the end of the school term.

I’m really glad this system was put in place, as I know it would have affected my time at school. Not just academically, but I also wouldn’t have been fully present for everything else that came with school life.

Now that I am solely responsible for my video game consumption, I look back at this time and really appreciate the kindness that was given with this greater external accountability.
