The learning process in school and uni is a solitary endeavour.
The results you get on a test or on a project are directly based on the work you’ve done by yourself. Everything comes back to you.
(Yes, sometimes there are group projects, but everyone who’s done a group project knows they’re more an exercise in dividing work unequally, rather than being taught how to actually work together)
We aren’t taught how to remove ourselves.
And then suddenly we emerge in the real world and get a job or run a business or lead a project, and we hold on to doing things ourselves. It’s so hard to let go because of the decades of conditioned independence.
Letting go is a skill that must be learned. It will take time, but it’s a worthy commitment to make.
