What am I holding on to?

Sometimes at the end of the day I’ll catch myself clenching my teeth or responding bluntly in conversation. 

I used to attribute these responses to the day itself, reasoning that it was a long day and I just needed to recharge. 

But the more I reflected on these moments, the more I’ve come to appreciate that it’s usually one event that’s affected me. 

I realise that I didn’t properly resolve this event when I should have, and I then subconsciously carried this tension with me across all engagements. 

This has been an important realisation because I can focus on this one moment, reconcile my emotions and recover, rather than brush off the day, write off the night and resolve to start fresh tomorrow. 

So now when stress surfaces unexpectedly, I ask myself the question – What am I holding on to?
