Life doesn’t always go the way you’d like. When things don’t go well, we fall back onto our defaults.
We have default behaviours because they have served us before, and over time we have built up a reliance on them to cope when things get a little too much.
Our default behaviours can be positive or they can be negative, but herein lies the challenge – we can only really influence our defaults when things are going well and we don’t need them.
If things are going well for you now, think about what you do when things don’t go well. If you want to change these behaviours, what systems can you put in place that will discourage you from falling back on a particular behaviour when you’re not in the best headspace? Or alternatively, what systems can you put in place that will encourage different behaviours from your defaults?
