The third question of the Quarter Life Framework is, What do you actually want? You may find this strange given you had to answer the first question, What do you want?
We ask this question as a follow up to the first so you can get really clear on the desired change.
The first question is designed to start broad – you may want a new job, or to be fitter, or to find someone special. We then explore why you want this in your life. And once you’re clear on the why, it helps to revisit the desired change with more focus.
Let’s say the answer to the first question was “a new job”. That’s a great place to start! Now, what is it you actually want? A title? A promotion? A certain salary? A larger network? A new skillset? A better team culture?
Do you want to stay with your current company, work for a different company, or even go out on your own?
In fact, you may actually want to stay in your current job, but are actually desiring more responsibility. So you may not want a new job at all, you’re just desiring greater opportunities in your role.
These are all examples to illustrate that when we start the journey of making a change, the clearer you can get on what that change is, the more likely you are to achieve it, and the more satisfied you will be with the actual result.
