Some say there are balls and strikes, and the umpire calls them as they are.
Others say the umpire calls balls and strikes as they see them.
And some believe there are only pitches until the umpire calls them balls or strikes.
This is a cool thought exercise from The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership (shoutout to Lachlan Preston for the recommendation!).
It speaks to how we interpret what happens around us:
Some people see life in absolute terms, where everything is right and wrong or true and false.
Others see life in relative terms, where things are shaped by our perspective and our influence.
Then there are those that don’t see life in defined terms at all, and instead recognise that things are what we choose to label them.
Consider then how you respond to events at work.
Do you see events as black and white?
Do you recognise the grey and adapt?
Or do you simply observe and consciously decide how to respond?
The difference matters.
