When I started my first full-time job, I was very excited. It was a role I really enjoyed, and every morning I would wake up energised to get to work early.
One day my manager interrupted the team in a distraught state. Apparently my colleague had sent an external email with the wrong information. On investigation, the information was found to be right at the time the email was sent, so the matter was resolved with a simple correction email.
After this happened, my morning routine shifted. I started waking up later and later, and I couldn’t understand why.
I realised I had subconsciously absorbed the manager’s negative reaction to the mistake, which made me cautious about going to work and doing something similar. Once I came to terms that I was absolutely going to make a mistake in the future, my morning routine went back to normal.
It’s amazing what your body can reveal, and ever since I’ve tried to understand what changes in my behaviour means.
Recently I noticed my self-doubt was manifesting in my lips – I’m either biting them or skewing them to the side as a reaction. So now when I notice myself doing this, I use it as a signal that I need to explore how I’m really feeling about a matter.
What is your body revealing?
