It’s incredible how quickly and strongly we form our opinions. Because if we challenge each opinion we have, we’d find a weak basis for having most of them.
Unfortunately, we don’t do this. Upon having an opinion, we then act on this opinion. Our conviction then strengthens, and it becomes difficult to challenge our thinking or behaviours. And this can lead to some difficult situations for yourself and others around you.
The amazing thing is, it doesn’t take much to challenge your own opinion.
The next time you form an opinion, simply ask yourself: “What makes me right?”
If you think you have an answer, go further. It’s very hard to be definitive with anything, so you should be expecting your opinion to be more wrong than right.
If you find out you don’t have authority on this matter, it’s hard to take action with conviction. And if you do believe you have authority, you’ll be more deliberate in the actions you then take.
