It’s amazing receiving replies to blog posts, and there is one reply from yesterday’s post that I think is especially worth sharing.
This one comes from Jayden who has read thousands of resumes in a hiring capacity.
Jayden said most opening statements in resumes don’t hit the mark because they’re poorly worded, and he would rather see evidence of an applicant’s skills and attributes.
Don’t just say you’re proficient at excel. Go further and describe a time when you used excel in an interesting way to solve a problem.
In reviewing an opening statement, he wants someone to:
- Highlight a skill they previously had a goal to achieve
- State how and where they developed it
- Explain what they are looking to do now, and
- Recognise how they’ll be able to apply it to the job that’s on offer.
Thanks a heap for sharing Jayden, and I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on effective resumes.
