As we progress through life, we sometimes feel a growing sense of needing to have an opinion when asked. This is especially when you’re seen as an expert or an authority on a matter.
If we don’t have an opinion, we fear being seen as uninformed and unable to meaningfully contribute.
But forming an opinion that you are confident sharing is a very hard thing to do.
It takes a lot of considered time and effort to say something that you’re happy to stand by and be challenged on.
Anything less is merely a thought, which when expressed may cause more harm than good.
Don’t be afraid to not have an opinion. When you’re asked to share an opinion, see it as an invitation to form an opinion first.
