Near where we live is a lagoon with an 8km path around it.
I’ve been running it regularly this year and yesterday I felt on track for a PB*.
The reason I felt I was running at a new level was my brain was silent during the run.
Usually I need to convince it that running is a good idea and then resist its urges to stop.
But yesterday, it wasn’t yelling at me.
The objections didn’t come.
It was calm.
It’s very satisfying when you realise you’ve improved – the switch from grind to ease.
It happened when I started writing daily blog posts. It happened when I started expanding my professional network. It happened when my newborn kept crying out in the middle of the night.
So if you’re working towards a goal and your brain keeps telling you to stop, there will come a time when your mind will quieten and you’ll know the higher level you’re striving towards has become the norm.
(*I came up just short… next time!)
