There’s a quiet pressure in your 20s and 30s that if you don’t launch a business or get a top job you’ve missed the boat.
But the research says otherwise.
The average age of a successful startup founder is 45.
Note the key word, SUCCESSFUL.
These are the ones who actually build companies that grow, employ people and stick around.
This stat flies in the face of popular belief, so let’s be clear.
It doesn’t mean successful younger founders don’t exist.
But it does mean that success tends to come later than people expect.
Because experience matters.
And so does judgement to know what problems are worth solving.
And so does building the right relationships to get things moving (and stay in motion!).
That’s why founders in their 40s have a great hit rate.
They have a clear problem they want to solve and have the resources to go after it.
Or they’ve used their 20s & 30s to try things, learn from their mistakes and try better.
So don’t look at your peers that are getting promoted or starting businesses and get disheartened.
This is a marathon with no set path.
If you are clear on where you’d like your career to go, the path will reveal itself.
