When I coach clients that are navigating their next career move, I advise them that every encounter they have with someone should be framed around an outcome – try not to have conversations for conversations sake.
The three outcomes you can strive for are a combination of:
- A direct path to a job
- An introduction/connection (to get a job)
- Awareness/information (to get a job)
The best thing about an outcome-based approach is that the person you meet with will know if they’ve helped you or not.
